Life Lessons to Learn at Home
Comparing children who go to school outside the home to those children who are homeschooled, you find that there are more life lessons learned at home than are being taught in school. In school, children learn to be good at academics, at math, science, history, and other subjects but they are lacking in teaching them lessons in life.
Many schools do not each life lessons and so their graduates end up not knowing how to live life as a grownup. Homeschooling parents are privileges to be able to teach life lessons to their children aside from their regular subjects.
Below are some tips to help you teach your children some important life lessons.
In home economics, we learn how to cook and about nutrition which is not really enough to prepare one for the real life outside of school. It is the privilege of homeschooling parents to be able to teach their children how to cook and clean and use these lessons in real life.
Encourage your children to clean as they go and not clean up after them like many schools do. Cleaning up as part of the lesson will soon be brought out of the school setting and bring it with them as a habit through life.
Budgeting should also be taught at home. A lot of people have never been taught how to budget and this is why when they grow up they get into financial trouble. Schools teach math which includes money but students are never taught about budgeting. And herein lies the problem.
You can do activities at home that will teach your children how to budget. Play shopping using play money can be used to teach budgeting. Going to a child friendly store like Anthill shop N play is a great place to teach budgeting. Give them money to buy items and make them budget their own money. Give them an allowance good for a month and see how they fare in budgeting. With only one month to last, they can spend their money on food, toys, activities and other things.
Schools teach children to eat healthy and stay active but not to take care of oneself. This is why many children don’t know how to take care of themselves.
To help calm their minds and relax them, you can teach them meditation. To reduce feelings of stress and anxiety, teach them to use deep breathing. Help them to express themselves and their feeling in different ways like art or other ways of self expression.
Being able to educate your children in these things as a homeschooling parents is a great privilege and opportunity. They will have better chances of a happier and more successful future.
